- Day 2: Arusha to Miriakamba Hut
- Elevation: 1300 m to 2500 m
- Hiking time: 5-7 hours
Our guide will pick you up and take you to the Momella Gate of Arusha National Park. Your guide will assist you with registering with the park officials and soon you will hire porters to carry your packs during the climb. The first day of the hike at Mount Meru is similar to a walking safari. An armed ranger will accompany you to protect you from dangerous animals. As you hike, you may encounter animals like giraffes, buffalos, zebras, elephants, and many more.
You will reach the scenic Ngarenanyuki River and cross a breathtaking waterfall on the foot of Mt. Meru. After a long hike, you will reach Miriakamba Hut (2500). You will enjoy the views of sunset, a hot dinner from your chef, and overnight.
- Day 3: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
- Elevation: 2500 m to 3500 m
- Hiking time: 3-5 hours
After breakfast, we leave Miriakamba Hut and hike through a steep trail. We are still in the vegetation zone, so, we can see animals as we hike. The Mount Meru Crater and Ashy Tray can be seen as we hike through this trail. We arrive at Saddle in the noon or late afternoon, eat a meal, and relax. You can also hike to the Little Meru (3820 m) for acclimatization. We then eat dinner and sleep early in preparation for the summit attempt.
- Day 4: Saddle Hut to Summit to Miriakamba Hut
- Elevation: 3500 m to 4566 m, then to 2500 m
- Hiking time: 10-12 hours of hiking
The journey begins at around 00:30 a.m. Energize your body with hot coffee and bites. We start our final ascent at around 01:30 a.m. The aim is to witness sunrise at the Socialist Peak. We hike through Rhino Point (3800 m), and Cobra Point (4350 m) and pass the ridges of Mount Meru’s crater. The hike continues until you arrive at the highest point of Mount Meru. Enjoy the views of Mount Meru Ashy Tray, distance views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Momella Lakes, etc. We then begin our descent from the summit to the Saddle Hut for a little rest and lunch. We then continue our hike to Miriakamba Hut where we rest and enjoy our last dinner on Mt. Meru
